Cook County, IL — A woman was stabbed to death by a man who became mad that a bag of Halloween candy went missing on Halloween night, October 31, 2011. The woman was stabbed multiple times at 7150 S. Winchester Avenue, and later died Saturday night at Stroger Hospital, reported NBC Chicago.

Maria Adams, 49, was killed after an argument escalated about a missing bag of candy. During the fight, a plate was thrown and hit Adam’s acquaintance, Ledell Peoples, 55, which left him with a cut over his eye. The fight continued until Adams was stabbed multiple times.

Adams was rushed to Stroger Hospital where she later died a few days later.

Peoples was arrested and charged with attempted murder and aggravated domestic battery. But, officers revealed that the charges are expected to be upgraded following Adams’ death.

Peoples was booked into the Cook County Jail, where he is being held on a $2 million bond.

Wentworth Area detectives are investigating the murder.

New Orleans officials scrambled Tuesday to restore a sense of calm to a citizenry on edge hours after two gunmen opened fire on a crowd of costumed Halloween revelers on Bourbon Street in an act of carelessness that was shocking even in a city inured to street violence. It was one of five separate shootings over the holiday that left two dead and 14 others injured, with most of the mayhem centered in the tourist hub of the French Quarter.

In the bloodiest incident, a shootout between two men broke out near a storied club on Bourbon Street just after midnight, leaving one of the gunmen dead and injuring seven people who were caught in the crossfire.
Just over an hour later, four others were shot on Canal Street at the edge of the Quarter. One of them died at the hospital. There were also nonfatal shootings in Mid-City, Bywater and St. Roch after the sun went down Monday evening.The mayhem came at the culmination of one of the busiest fall weekends for New Orleans hotels, which were chockablock with guests attending the Voodoo Festival or celebrating Halloween."Halloween is something we really market as a visitor attraction," said Kelly Schulz, a spokeswoman for the New Orleans Convention and Visitors Bureau. "The hotels in the city were pretty much sold out. And the French Quarter was full."The shootings made national news almost immediately, with CNN and several national websites featuring prominent stories about the mayhem. Mark Romig, CEO of the New Orleans Tourism and Marketing Corporation, said his organization is monitoring industrywide communication about the incidents and countering them with messages about the millions of visitors New Orleans hosts each year without incident.

October 31, 2010 (CHICAGO) (WLS) -- A woman who fell several stories died instantly at a Halloween party at Chicago's Palmer House Hilton over the weekend, authorities said.
The woman, identified as 23-year-old Megan Duskey, was a Chicago Public Schools teacher.
Duskey graduated from Northern Illinois University last year.
She was enjoying a night out with girlfriends Saturday when, police say, she attempted to slide down a staircase banister and fell.
"Everybody's like, 'Oh, a girl just fell off the balcony.' Everybody kind of freaked out," said Justin Fullmer, who also attended the hotel party.
The accident happened at approximately 10:30 p.m., about 30 minutes after the south suburban Crete woman and her friends arrived at the Palmer House for the celebration. Investigators say it appears Duskey was attempting to slide down a banister on the hotel's mezzanine level when she lost her balance and fell at least two stories down to the basement level.
"It seems like it was an area where not a lot of people could go to, very secluded or something like that. No one really knew where this girl had fell," party guest Ben Clements said. "It was quite shocking. We were wondering what was going on. Like I said earlier, we were trying to find, I tried to find, the nearest security guard, kind of ask him, you know, 'What's going on? Why is everybody evacuating the place?' He really didn't have any answers."
Hotel officials did not comment.
According to authorities, Duskey died instantly. Police add foul play did not appear to be a factor, but alcohol may have played a role.
Duskey and her friends reportedly had gone to the luxury establishment for the Haunted Hotel Ball.
"I worked it last year for the company that hosts it. We increased capacity by 800 people. So, it was 2,000. Last year, it was 1,300, but it wasn't crowded at all," said Barbara Twarowska, the party's VIP hostess.
Dressed in 1920s gangster garb, Mickey Hoffman also attended the sold-out event, which drew approximately 2,000 people. Hoffman was shocked when the party suddenly stopped.
"All the lights turned on first. We had no idea what was going on," Hoffman said.
Megan Duskey became an early childhood education and early childhood special education teacher at a Far South Side school shortly after graduating from NIU in 2009. Friends say she loved sports.
Duskey's family released the following statement:
"Megan's passing is a tragic loss to her family and friends. She was a caring, energetic person who was full of life and eager to help others and make a difference in the world."
"We all had fun. It seemed like it was just an unfortunate event," Clements said.
Some party guests told ABC7 Chicago the Halloween event at the hotel was shut down by the fire marshal and that another partygoer was stabbed. The Chicago Fire Department and the Chicago Police Department did not confirm either claim.
Grief counselors are likely to be present Monday at the elementary school where Megan Duskey taught to help students, staff and parents deal with the death.

It may be sometime before Halloween can actually be Abolished. Maybe even not until the Lord comes again, but we can use the devils own weapons against him!

Feds: Sexual Svengali led moms to assault own kids

A Redford man accused of manipulating women in three states into sexually assaulting their children was ordered held behind bars today by a federal judge.
Steven Demink, 41, is facing three child pornography charges that could send him to prison for more than 30 years. U.S. Magistrate Judge Mona K. Majzoub ordered him temporarily detained after a federal prosecutor described Demink as a flight risk and a danger to children in the area and nationwide.
"He only needs Internet access and the power of his mind," Assistant U.S. Attorney Kevin Mulcahy said.
A federal prosecutor described Demink as a sexual Svengali who met women on websites devoted to single parents. Using the pseudonym Dalton St. Clair, he portrayed himself as a father of a 14-year-old daughter.
He convinced women in Idaho, New Hampshire and Florida to assault their children — assaults that were photographed or streamed over the Internet and viewed by Demink, according to Mulcahy.
There were five victims, all under the age of 18, according to Mulcahy.
Demink is due back in U.S. District Court Oct. 28 for a preliminary examination.
His lawyer, Timothy Dinan, did not comment before quickly leaving the hearing with Demink's parents.
Demink's court hearing comes a week after authorities rescued three children in Virginia and Florida who were assaulted by their mothers, according to Mulcahy. The mothers have been arrested on sex charges.
This isn't the first time Demink's name has surfaced in connection with child porn, Mulcahy said. In 2003, Demink's name appeared on a list of people who subscribed to child porn sites compiled during a U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement investigation. Demink subscribed to three child porn sites, Mulcahy said.
But he never faced charges in that case.
The current case dates to December 2009 and a mother in Idaho who investigators say sexually assaulted her 5-year-old son at the direction of an online chat partner named Dalton St. Clair.
Agents with the U.S. Department of Homeland Security searched Demink's home Sept. 2 and seized a computer from his bedroom. A quick check found several images and videos of what are suspected to be child porn, according to court records. In an interview that day, Demink admitted creating the Dalton St. Clair persona to meet women on the website singleparentmeet.com, according to authorities. In one case, authorities said, he told agents about chatting with a woman who performed sex acts on her children and streamed the video on a Web cam.
Demink also told investigators about chats with three other women who had sexual contact with their kids, according to an affidavit filed by a Homeland Security special agent.
One woman e-mailed Demink photos of her molesting a 14-year-old son and 10-year-old daughter.
In the Florida case, Demink told the mother he had a doctorate in psychology and could help her son, who was suffering from "mental issues," according to the affidavit.
Dalton gave the mom a series of instructions that escalated from cuddling to nudity and, eventually, performing oral sex on her son, according to the affidavit.
When either of the woman's children would resist the abuse, which was being photographed, Demink would promise trips or items such as a Sony PlayStation 3, according to the affidavit.
