EAST ST. LOUIS — Police in East St. Louis say a 16-year-old boy was shot dead on Halloween.
Police on Sunday identified the teen as Rashaud Wilson of East St. Louis and they say that he was wanted for armed robbery. Authorities say police officers found Wilson outside a home with a head wound around 9 p.m. on Saturday.
Police say they are investigating the teen’s death and did not recover a weapon.
For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.

Westfield, MA
The Halloween candy still lying on the sidewalk is a grim reminder of the tragedy that happened in Westfield on Halloween. 47 year old Roberta Salois was with her 9 year old son Steven.The two live at this Westfield Condominium complex and were trick or treating on South Maple Street, close to a family members home.Salois and here son were attempting to cross the road just after 8:00 by Maplewood Ave when 26 year old Anne Schlichtig hit them in her car.Ashley Smigel saw the whole thing through the window of a cab.
Smigel says, "I Saw a woman in the road, somebody was giving her CPR and we came up further and we saw the little boy in the road."
Mary Phillips witnessed the tragic accident from her house moments after giving them candy.
Phillips says, "The mother was hit so bad that the people who were standing there when the ambulance arrived knew she was dead."
Phillips says people travel fast down the busy road every day.Police have not confirmed whether or not speed was a factor, but to witnesses it seems obvious.
Smigel says, "They were very far apart. Clearly the driver was going very fast."
Neighbors say they still can't believe what's happened.Many of them leaving flowers or saying prayers at the accident sight.
Phillips says, "People should be more careful on halloween, I don't care if people are wearing dark clothing or not, you have lights in you car, I heard that she drove 100 feet before she stopped she didn't stop right away."
Police say the crash is still under investigation.

Leticia Barrera Shot Dead While Trick-Or-Treating With 3 Young Kids in CHICAGO.

(11/1/2007) Police are searching for suspects after a gunman shot and killed a pregnant woman while she was on her way home from trick-or-treating with her three children in the Back of the Yards neighborhood. The victim was with her children just steps away from her own home when Halloween fun turned into tragedy. A vigil for victim Leticia Barrera concluded shortly before 6 p.m. Thursday. As CBS 2's Joanie Lum reports, neighborhood residents brought their children to the place where the mother of three was killed. At the foot of the steps leading to the home they say they're full of sorrow and frustration and are desperate for help to stop the shooting. Priests from several parishes joined local residents and Ceasefire outreach workers to pray for Barrera, the 32-year-old mother, who was seven months pregnant. She was standing at her gate last evening when she was shot. She had just taken her children, ages 7, 5 and 2 trick-or-treating. A neighbor ran out to help. "Me and the guy upstairs tried to help by calling 911," said neighbor Oscar Trujillo. Barrera's friend, Myrna Rojas, was with her when the victim was shot. Rojas described Barrera as a "very nice mom." Police said Barrera was just feet from the home she had decorated for the holiday when bullets started flying down the block. "It's sad," said neighbor John Castanuela. "You can't even trick-or-treat anymore." Castanuela described the deadly shooting that sent children running in fear. "They were just completely freaking; just running down the street scared, looking back to see what was going on," Castanuela said. A young witness said the scene was chaotic. "People were screaming and people were getting scared," said Francisco Flores. "They were running away because they didn't know what to do." Friends held Barrera while she lay dying. A family member says the children don't realize their mother is gone. "I don't know what their father is going to tell the children about this," the childrens' paternal uncle Lucio Flores said in Spanish. "I don't know what to say as their uncle." Witnesses saw two young men wearing Halloween masks running down Seeley Avenue. Police canvassed the area, asking residents for tips. Barrera's friend urged gang members to have compassion. "Bystanders pay for their actions but I hope nothing happens to them," Myrna Roja said in Spanish. "But I hope they stop because they cause others pain." Rojas has been watching over Barrera's children. She said Barrera tried to protect the children when she heard the shots. Barrera's husband was working in Florida at the time of the shooting, and is on his way back, Rojas said. Organizers of the gang intervention group Ceasefire say government budget cuts severely reduced their ability to reduce violence here. "Ordinarily we're prepared for it, talking to the guys to keep everything quiet," said the group's director, Gary Slutkin. Detectives believe Barrera was an unintended victim caught in gang gunfire. They say they are looking for two teens. Police reviewed the tape from the video surveillance camera on the corner. They hoped to see the suspects running past but say the video revealed very little.
We continually see Halloween promoting being scared, and fear as good fun things. I feel it's a terrible burden to have to treat an entire nation like a bunch of kindergartners! Jose Perez, 15, of Hanover Park, is charged as an adult with one count of attempted first-degree murder and one count of aggravated battery with a firearm, according to Streamwood police. Judge Hyman Riebman set bond at $1 million during a Monday afternoon hearing, according to Cook County State's Attorney's office spokeswoman Tandra Simonton. He will appear for a preliminary hearing in Rolling Meadows on Nov. 25. The shooting happened about 8 p.m. Saturday in the 3000 block of Club Tree Drive, a release from police said. Upon arrival, officers found a 15-year-old boy shot once in the face and once in the buttocks. He was taken to St. Alexius Medical Center in Hoffman Estates, where he was listed in "stable" condition Monday morning. According to the victim and witnesses, two teenagers wearing masks came up to the boy as he sat on a swing talking to friends. At least one of the offenders shot him twice without provocation, the release said. Perez was found a short distance away near an apartment complex and was still in possession of the .32 caliber weapon used in the attack, according to police. The second offender remains in police custody Monday afternoon, but no charges had been filed as of 1:30 p.m., according to the release. The attack appears to be gang-related, although the victim had no gang affiliations, according to police. Streamwood police are investigating.

The heartbroken grandmother of an adorable 10-year-old boy trick-or-treater killed by a falling tree on Halloween in Pelham, N.H., said her family is asking for prayers after enduring two tragedies in one week.
Christian Gualtieri, of Pelham, N.H., was dressed as a clown Saturday night and out collecting candy with friends when 20-mile-per-hour wind gusts knocked a tree down on top of him, said police.
Just days earlier, it was Christian’s uncle’s brother, Jay Carciero of Reading, who was shot to death by an off-duty special police officer after viciously stabbing a Massachusetts General Hospital psychiatrist Tuesday.
“We’re just numb, walking around without knowing what is going on,” said grandmother Nancy Gualtieri, who explained her daughter was married to one of Carciero’s brothers. Gualtieri lost her grandson and former son-in-law’s brother in one week.
She added, “We need prayers.”
Gualtieri said her grandson was just having fun with his buddies when tragedy struck.
“He was a wonderful little boy,” said Gualtieri. “He was just a happy-go-lucky, little boy, about to turn 11.”
Pelham Police Lt. Gary Fisher said the fourth-grader was with a group of about 20 children being shuttled to front-door candy stops on a hay ride. At this particular stop, Christian was the first child to collect his candy and wait for the hay-filled trailer at the side of the road, Fisher said.
Suddenly, a white birch tree snapped at its stump, about 4 feet off the ground.
“It was somewhat rotted and dried out, and the winds were starting to become strong,” Fisher said.
The tree trunk, about 2 feet in diameter, fell on Christian, sending him into cardiac arrest. He died at Saints Memorial Hospital in Lowell, Fisher said.
That other children were not injured was miraculous, he said.

One child was killed in West Hawaii on Halloween Eve, 10/31/09 according to police. The fatal accident occurred Saturday evening at the Ocean View Evangelical Community Church, where 7-year-old Emily Midgley, of Hawaiian Ocean View Estates, died of injuries she suffered during a hay ride. Ka'u patrol officers responded Saturday to the 7:08 p.m. call and determined that a 48-year-old Hawaiian Ocean View Estates man was operating a 1998 Dodge pickup with a trailer hitched to the truck. In the trailer were a number of passengers, including Midgley.

As the vehicle was coming to a stop in the church's parking lot at the end of the hay ride, Midgley jumped off the trailer and was run over. She was transported to Kona Community Hospital and pronounced dead at 8:15 p.m. Police do not believe speed or alcohol were factors in the incident. Traffic Enforcement Unit officers have initiated a negligent homicide investigation and have ordered an autopsy to determine the exact cause of death. Attempts to reach Ocean View Evangelical Community Church, Midgley's family and Acting Sgt. Robert Pauole, of the Traffic Enforcement Unit, were unsuccessful as of press time Sunday. Because the crash occurred on a private road, the death is not counted toward the island's official traffic fatality count.

The children were wearing ghoulish masks when a homeowner felt threatened enough to start shooting at them.

A beautiful young boys life was taken from us on HALLOWEEN! If only he, and we all were raised to put God first! I used to participate in all kinds of idiotic activities for Halloween in my youth. I sincerely repent for all that I did. Lets all put God first in our lives every day and teach our children to do the same. Did you tell the LORD that you Love Him today??? It was a Halloween night when 12-year-old T.J. Darrisaw was trick-or-treating with his family in their Sumter, South Carolina neighborhood. They approached one house when... "They then heard what they thought were firecrackers," Sumter Police Chief Patty Patterson said. "They then learned it was gunfire. They were being fired upon by someone inside the residence." Police say the owner of that house, 22-year-old Quentin Patrick, a convicted felon, thought he was being robbed – so he fired off nearly 30 rounds from an assault rifle. Several of those bullets hit T.J., killing him. "The door of the residence had not been opened when the gunfire erupted," Patterson said. T.J.'s father and his 9-ear-old brother were also hurt, but they were quickly treated and released from a local hospital. A woman who lives next door to the shooting scene says the family was very nice when they stopped at her door for candy. "They had real nice manners," the neighbor said. "They said thank you and sounded real sweet." Patrick has been charged with murder. A 19-year-old woman who was in his home has been charged with obstruction of justice. Family members say they stopped at Patrick's house because the porch light was on.
As you can see the devil did have many victories on what he continually persists to claim as his night. This is just one small example, but we can and MUST fight back! Dont be nieve. We have been conditioned! FIGHT BACK! Educate yourself, and your children!

What happens to you when you accept salvation? A definite spiritual change, a transformation, takes place. Sometimes this is called a change of heart. Second Corinthians 7:10 says, "For the sadness that is used by God brings a change of heart that leads to salvation." Second Corinthians 5:17 tells us, "When anyone is joined to Christ, he is a new being; the old is gone, the new has come." This change can be seen in several ways. Sometimes a person's attitude toward life changes from sad to happy, or perhaps he now loves someone he couldn't love before.
There can also be physical transformations. Those who have been bound by habits such as alcoholism can be set free. The Lord is powerful to make any changes necessary in the person who now believes on Him.
To accept Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior also means to be born into the family of God.
Jesus answered, "I tell you the truth, no one can enter the kingdom of God unless he is born of water and the Spirit. Flesh gives birth to flesh, but the Spirit gives birth to spirit. You should not be surprised at my saying, 'You must be born again.'
John 3:5-7
John 1:12-13 says, "Some, however, did receive him and believed in him; so he gave them the right to become God's children. They did not become God's children by natural means, that is, by being born as the children of a human father; God himself was their Father."
The Bible also speaks of adoption which brings out a similar relationship. By adoption we are received into God's family. God makes us His children, giving us all the rights of inheritance that belong to the sons of God.
"God's Spirit joins himself to our spirits to declare that we are God's children. Since we are his children, we will possess the blessings he keeps for his people, and we will also possess with Christ what God has kept for him; for if we share in Christ's suffering we will also share his glory" (Romans 8:16-17).
Being in the family of God is special. This is why you will hear Christians call each other "brother" or "sister." This is a way of saying, "We belong to the same family."

What is Halloween really all about?

Have you ever asked yourself, "Who in the world ever thought of the idea of walking around in weird costumes, trick or treating, and/or putting a carved-out pumpkin in your window?"
You will agree with me that Halloween is really one of the strangest days of the year, is it not? Perhaps you wonder, How did the celebration of such a day ever get started? In this article I would like to answer that question for you!

Where and when did Halloween customs originate?

The many customs we have today in relation to Halloween have their origins in the religious practices of the Romans and the Druids, therefore dating back many centuries. The Romans worshiped various gods and on October 31, a special feast was held in honor of Pomona, goddess of the fruit trees. Later, the Druids, an ancient order of Celtic priests in Britain, made this feast an even more extensive celebration by also honoring Samhain, lord of the dead. This was normally done on November 1 and it was therefore decided to conveniently honor both Pomona and Samhain on October 31 and November 1.
These Druids believed that on the night before November 1 (October 31) Samhain called together wicked souls or spirits which had been condemned to live in the bodies of animals during the year which had just transpired. Since they were afraid of these spirits, they chose October 31 as a day to sacrifice to their gods, hoping they would protect them. They really believed that on this day they were surrounded by strange spirits, ghosts, witches, fairies, and elves, who came out to hurt them. In addition to this, they also believed that cats were holy animals, as they considered them to represent people who lived formerly, and as punishment for evil deeds were reincarnated as a cat. All this explains why witches, ghosts, and cats are a part of Halloween today.
The custom of trick-or-treating and the use of "jack-o'-lanterns" comes from Ireland. Hundreds of years ago, Irish farmers went from house to house, begging for food, in the name of their ancient gods, to be used at the village Halloween celebration. They would promise good luck to those who gave them food, and made threats to those who refused to give. They simply told the people, "You treat me, or else I will trick you!"
The apparently harmless lightened pumpkin face or "jack-o'-lantern" actually is an old Irish symbol of a damned soul. A man named Jack was supposed to be unable to enter heaven due to his miserliness, and unable to enter hell because he had played practical jokes on the devil. As a result, he was condemned to wander over the earth with his lantern until judgment day (i.e., the end of the world). The Irish were so afraid that they would receive an identical plight, that they began to hollow out pumpkins and place lighted candles inside to scare away evil spirits from their home.

When did the modern Halloween celebration begin?

During the Middle Ages (about 600 years ago), the Roman Catholic Church at that time, decided to make the change-over from pagan religion to Christianity a bit easier, and therefore allowed the new converts to maintain some of their pagan feasts. It was agreed, however, that from now on they would be celebrated as "Christian" feasts. So instead of praying to their heathen gods, they would now pray to, and remember the deaths of saints. For this reason the church decided to call November 1 the "Day of All Saints," and the mass to be celebrated on that day "Allhallowmass." In consequence of this, the evening prior to this day was named, "All Hallowed Evening" which subsequently was abbreviated as "Halloween." In spite of this effort to make October 31 a "holy evening," all the old customs continued to be practiced, and made this evening anything BUT a holy evening!

Halloween today.

You would have to agree with me also that today Halloween is most definently not a holy evening!! This annual event is far from the harmless, innocent tradition it is promoted to be. Many dread this "holy" evening as they think what could happen to them, their property, and/or their children! Consistent with its historical roots, this evening is charecterized by fear, and frequently arouses dormant fears in many. The fear generated by this event is symbolic of the fear which plagues so many in our moden, morally bankrupt world. It is a gripping fear for an unknown and very threatening future, a fear caused by a gnawing inner emptiness.

An alternative for October 31.

For many in this land, this day stands for the very opposite of fear!! On this day in 1517, a German monk and professor of theology, Dr. Martin Luther, courageously published the simple, straightforward truth of the Bible. God's Word, which he has rediscovered after a long and intense spiritual struggle. God used the truth of his own Word to give Luther the inner peace he had so desperately longed for. The Bible pointed him towards the way to God Himself, and when he found God through Jesus Christ, he found this peace which passes all understanding! He himself stated that it was as if he entered Paradise itself.
As a result of his courageous act on October 31, 1517, the Bible came into the hands of the common people again, and many, who as he, were deeply troubled by sin and it’s consequences, found peace with God as well!
It was God himself, Who used Martin Luther to bring His message of deliverance into the hands and hearts of sinners, in order to bring them back to Himself, and give them TRUE peace!! It is therefore with deep gratitude to God that we wish to commemorate October 31, as it reminds us of God's gracious and mighty deeds nearly five centuries ago.
It is the Word of God, and its precious truth, rediscovered by Martin Luther, which still gives true peace to many today. In the Bible ALONE will you find the ONLY answer to the deep yearning of your heart. ONLY when God becomes your God through Jesus Christ, you will find rest at last and you will answer to the true purpose of human existence, namely, to honor, serve, and enjoy our Creator!!
Is the God of heaven and earth YOUR God? If not, seek Him TODAY, while He still may be found!!

Those who insist on seeking inner peace without being reconciled to God through Jesus Christ, will have to endure eternal misery without God. God does not desire the eternal misery of man and therefore.

Ezekial 33:11,
"As I live, saith the Lord God, I have no pleasure in the deaths of the wicked (i.e. Sinner) but that the wicked turn from his way and live! Turn ye, turn ye from your evil ways: for why will ye die?"

Here I am! I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears my voice and opens the door, I will come in and eat with him, and he with me. To him who overcomes, I will give the right to sit with me on my throne, just as I overcame and sat down with my Father on his throne. He who has an ear, let him hear what the Spirit says to the churches. (Revelation 3:20-22)

Somebody's knocking on my door! Do I dare to open it? Somebody's knocking just now! He is waiting that I would open the door and answer to His invitation because I can hear His voice.
Maybe He doesn't know that I am very busy right now! I have to clean my house. I have to cook food for my children because soon they will come from school. Huh, terrible hurry! Music playing from radio, vacuum cleaner is on, dishwasher is running. Is He believing that I could hear His silent invitation in the middle of all this noise.
He is still knocking! Should I open? What will I say to Him?
I am a sinner. I am afraid to open! I have within so much guilt and shame. I am afraid. I can't move my legs, I am petrified.
However His voice is soft and appealing!

For God was pleased to have all his fullness dwell in him, and through him to reconcile to himself all things, whether things on earth or things in heaven, by making peace through his blood, shed on the cross. (Colossians 1:19-20)

However He has made atonement for my sin, wickedness and imperfection. It is not necessary to hide and cover them anymore. That's why I can open the door, and I know, when I open a mild breeze will come in when He steps over the threshold.

This is what the LORD says: "In the time of my favor I will answer you, and in the day of salvation I will help you; I will keep you and will make you to be a covenant for the people, to restore the land and to reassign its desolate inheritances, to say to the captives, 'Come out,' and to those in darkness, 'Be free!' "They will feed beside the roads and find pasture on every barren hill. They will neither hunger nor thirst, nor will the desert heat or the sun beat upon them. He who has compassion on them will guide them and lead them beside springs of water. (Isaiah 49:8-10)

Dare I open my door? Do I dare go to the light? My longing increases! I want to go out to the wider place, out from snuggle of myself. I like to be with Him! Don't go away! You see how lonely I am.

And I open my door!

Not only is this so, but we also rejoice in God through our Lord Jesus Christ, through whom we have now received reconciliation. (Romans 5:11)

Glory and praise will be devoted for who was knocking, our Lord, Jesus Christ! He doesn't get tired when He is looking and inviting us. He is knocking allways on our door! He likes to eat with us!

Police: Pumpkins Thrown from Overpass, Driver Hurt

PLYMOUTH TOWNSHIP, MI - Police say a driver in a Detroit suburb has been injured after three pumpkins thrown from an overpass hit his truck.
Michigan State Police say the 2007 Ford Ranger pickup truck was hit by the pumpkins early Friday on M-14 in Wayne County's Plymouth Township. Two of the pumpkins struck the front of the pickup and the third went through the windshield.
The driver, Hank Kiel, has 18 stitches in his face, a broken cheekbone and other bruises. At first, the husband and father of two girls says he hardly knew what hit him.
"Just all of a sudden I heard like a loud boom, and then probably about five, ten seconds later I realized my windshield was damaged. When I tried calling 9-1-1, I had a hard time seeing my phone because I didn't realize there was blood coming down... my face," said Hank Kiel. "I don't see why someone would do that... Here it is three in the morning just trying to go home from work. Still stunned. I can't get over it."
WWJ-AM reports more pumpkins were thrown off the overpass 10 minutes after emergency personnel cleared the scene.
"It makes me sad that people are that disrespectful of life to be so careless to almost kill somebody... I just hope they get caught," said Cherise Kiel, Hank's wife.
Hank Kiel still needs to see a plastic surgeon. "I'm just glad to be alive," he said. He believes one of the pumpkins was stuffed with debris to weigh it down.
Police are investigating the incident as a felonious assault.

NEW YORK CITY – The ghosts may have been abandoned across the street, where the House that Ruth Built is awaiting the imminent arrival of the wrecker’s ball. But from old to new, the New York Yankees left no doubt in the House that George Built that their championship tradition runs as straight and true as a pinstripe.
The Yankees won their 27th World Series title and first in the new Yankee Stadium by beating the Philadelphia Phillies 7-3 Wednesday night to take the 105th World Series in six games.
They christened their new $1.5 billion home in the same style as the original back in 1923, when the heroes were a left-handed slugger named Babe Ruth and a left-handed pitcher named Herb Pennock.
